MayDay 2X IPA

MayDay 2X IPA (8.6% ABV, 65 IBU)

Great Burn Brewing’s second run of our May specialty release.  This release is in celebration of Missoula’s Craft Beer week and to honor our fallen brother Chad whose birthday is also in May.  This another big, but well- balanced beer with a high % ABV and robust hop flavor.  This 2X IPA has a great body with a grain bill including Montana Two-row, Munich, and wheat malts.  On the hop side this beer has five different varieties including Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Palisade and Simco.   To add even more hop aroma, whole-leaf Palisade and Simco hops were used in a hop-back.  Following fermentation this IPA was dry-hopped with both Centennial and Chinook.  This 2X IPA is surprisingly well-balanced with complex hop flavor. 

Pika Pale Ale

Pika Pale Ale (5.3% ABV, 30 IBU)

This beer is a collaborative effort between Great Burn Brewing and the Great Burn Study Group (GBSG) with a portion of all sales donated to the study group.  The GBSG held a contest to name this beer.   The winner is Pika Pale Ale.   Help support the proposed Great Burn Wilderness by drinking craft beer.

This English-style Pale Ale is brewed with Montana Two Row, Vienna, Crystal and Cherrywood smoked malts, and flavored with Magnum and Cascade hops.  When designing this beer the GBSG decided they wanted a hint of smoke and low hop aroma.  This beer starts with a sweet malty flavor of a Pale Ale followed by a blast of smoke that finishes with slight bitterness of cascade hops and smoky aftertaste. 

 

Wine Barrel Aged Spiced Belgian Ale

Wine Barrel Aged Spiced Belgian Ale (6.3% ABV, 13 IBU)

This specialty ale consists of our Spiced Belgian Ale aged in Port Wine barrel.  The ale by itself already had a nice fruitiness and spiced (ginger and rose hips) flavors.  Our Spiced Belgian is brewed with 1/3 wheat and has very low bitterness.  The star of this beer is the Belgian yeast that produces the strong fruitiness and phenolic characteristics.  The barrel aging has added a more complex flavor profile with a mild sour note on top of the fruitiness of ale.
